Re: SMART tripped in st9320325as

Backup your data ASAP and replace the drive.

Instead of SeaTools, try a more comprehensive SMART diagnostic. Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

HD Sentinel (DOS / Windows / Linux):

HDDScan for Windows:

Re: SMART tripped in st9320325as

Your drive has failed. Backup ASAP and replace it.

The Reallocated Sector Count has dropped below the threshold. The total number of bad sectors is 2823 (= 0xB07):

The Reported Uncorrectable sector count is 7514 (= 0x1D5A).

Re: SMART tripped in st9320325as

I am also getting 'Smart Trip Failed'  Please explain how you can back up your data if the drive has failed? I can't get into the data which is why I'm trying all the Seagate diagnostic tools.

Re: SMART tripped in st9320325as

A drive is considered to have "failed" if the value of any of its critical SMART attributes has fallen below its threshold. This does not always mean that your data are inaccessible. For example, your drive may have exceeded an allowable number of spare sectors ("reallocated sectors"), but the remaining sectors may still be readable.

If the drive is having difficulty reading certain areas of the media, then you could try to recover as much of the readable data as possible by cloning your drive sector-by-sector using a tool that knows how to work around bad sectors (eg ddrescue), and then use data recovery software on the clone.

http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html

Ddrescue can perform multipass cloning. It clones the easy sectors on the first pass, and attempts the more difficult ones on subsequent passes. It also keeps a log, allowing it to resume after an interruption.

The following thread discusses various freeware and commercial cloning tools:
