Hi,
I lost my power adapter and the original box. There are no info on the drive whatsoever what adapter does it need. After I searched for 2 hours and talk with people on IRC I still didn't get a proper answer.
Please someone who have this external hard drive check the specifications on the adapter. And don't tell me contact with maxtor customer support because atm I have no time for this. I'm on a travel and I need access to my drive, thank you!
I tried a 12V charger which was originally for pc speakers but the drive give out a strange noise so i just pulled it out right away. I have an universal 15V-24V charger but I'm afraid to use it until I'm not perfectly sure about the voltage.

We share the same problem: Let me offer some basic information, which I hope will help you.
If your 12 volt adapter was a higher Amperage than required, or the polarity (negative or positive tip) varies, you may have damaged the power supply board of the hard drive. The direct current which adapter provides to the Hard Drive is specific to the Vendor's equipment (that's why Radio Shack sells a special universal adapter, with a variety of tips for Negative (switch on the unit is selectable) or Positive; and they include a bundle of different sizes.
When In Doubt, Don't Use another adapter. I've asked if a 12 volt, 2.5 amps with positive tip is correct for my 500 Gigabyte One Plus 4 Maxtor?
There is very little information available, after two days of searching. I'm giving up and waiting for a Positive force in the Universe to energize someone to reply to both of our inquiries.

Hi,
I talked with Daniel at SeagateTech Support (after waiting 50 minutes on the phone) and he confirmed that my
Maxtor One Touch 4 plus 1 terabyte external hard drive would need a 12 volt 2 amp power adapter with a positive inside tip.
You can find them online in many paces. He assured me that the input frequency didn't matter.
Hope this helps you as it is not in any literature or online.
Linda
