Seagate Cheetah Medium Error - Medium Format Corrupted

Hi There
I have a Seagate Cheetah 36GB, 10K SCSI Ultra320 drive that has gone into error, with the error being:
Sense Key: 03h
Sense Code: 31h
Sense Code Qualifer:00h
I understand that this means Medium Error - Medium Format Corrupted.

I want to be able to recover data from this drive in some manner.

Firstly, can data typically be recovered from a drive with such an error?

If so, what is the recommended method to do this?

And where are the associated tools available from?

Appreciate anyones assistance or guidance to this issue.

Re: Seagate Cheetah Medium Error - Medium Format Corrupted

try seatools enterprise and run tests, maybe it can be fixed
it probably means there are a lot of bad sectors
dont run anything else except for these tests on the drive and if that doesnt fix it, try a data recovery software

-if you didn't back up your junk, you didn't need it after your drive crashed

Re: Seagate Cheetah Medium Error - Medium Format Corrupted

Before doing anything, check your data cable for loosing connection, and power distribution cable to make sure you have 5, 12 V. Turn on power. Check if your drive spins to it speeds and "sound" drive ready. What controller's brand are you using? Do you have an option to verify the "drive"? (Control A on the Adaptec), don't fix anything yet. I have never used Seatool, I don't know if Seatool will move your "unreadable" data to "fix" your hard drive???

Re: Seagate Cheetah Medium Error - Medium Format Corrupted

Hi Gianna

I have de same problem today.... and want to recover data too...

03H and 31H - Media Corrupted
Seagate Cheetah 36GB, 10K SCSI Ultra320 - Model ST36607LW

My question: Did you have success? How did you recover your data? Or not?
