Hi,

The simplistic instructions with my FreeAgent Go 250 GB made it seem so nice.  Yet reading the user license of Ceedo, it seems there is additional cost to the unit itself.  When I started investigating and looked up Ceedo on Seagate it brings up how to uninstall it.

Is this essential software and do I have to pay for it?

Thanks for any help

There is no additional cost for Ceedo. I am sorry for the misunderstanding.
Was there a specific problem you were experiencing?

Hi,

I beg to differ.  When you load the program the agreement says there is a 30-day trial and after that the customer needs to pay.  I did a lot of looking and think I found the info that it is $30.  Seagate should provide better info than the "this will be simple" downloading instructions.  I am happy with the basic product and might add Creedo,  but this was extremely misleading.  It does not provide the customer unfamiliar with the product the adequate amount of information.

I checked with Tech Support and they reaffirmed what I said.
Here's what you need to do first:
1) uninstall the software as it is now, since it is asking you to buy it
2) install the software from the drive.  This is very important - that it be from the drive.

That should get you where you need to go.
If it doesn't work, contact Customer Service directly whether by phone, email, or chat and they'll get you the free permanent software that should be included with your drive.

Hi,
I did not download it to begin with.  On the Seagate website, the only instructions they provide are for how to unload Ceedo.  Might be helpful to have info about what it really is.

As far as when you say "from the drive", can you explain that more fully?  I am pretty sure I know what you mean, it just helps to explain things more fully to the average person.

From what I read in another site, you must uninstall it from your PC.  Then go to the Segate external drive and find the software and install it from there.  It COULD be, this is a crippled version !  Not sure.
I don't use their software.  I use Freebyte  totally free.  Copy any file, folder or drive your computer can see.  Including network drives.
Check that site for full info.  It is not timed, you have to tell it to backup. But then, nothing running in the background.

Besides Freebyte, a different software for backing up any file/folder/drive on your PC to your FreeAgent HD.
You can also try Comodo backup.  Free, this has all kinds of options including timed backups.
Got that software name from another thread.
Kudos!
