I think the "spin up of the disk" problem might be a high Spin_Retry_Count in SMART. I had two ST31000340AS drives - one of them barely seemed to spin up on the first boot and after screwing with it for about 12 hours in SeaTools, got it to a working state. After I got my system up and running, that drive had a spin retry of 54 and died about one month later and the other drive started out with a spin retry of 3 and is now at 9 after two months. I don't know if this value is indicative of the bricking problem, but I'd keep a close eye on that and start backing up your files on a regular basis.

call seagate at 1.800.732.4283 for help. it's clear that the only seagate reps on these boards are not to keen on elping forum members, but just disorganizing threads and removing links to other valid sources of information on the internet.

calling tech support is your only hope, young padawan.

Kudos!

Hi:

Thanks for your participation in the our forums so far. Please remember that this is an online community where many of the responses come from other users, such as yourself. The forum is not a replacement for Customer Service. Seagate representative do from time to time come to lend a hand answering posts but not necessarily on a continual or frequent basis. If you have immediate needs, your best bet is to contact Customer Service directly whether by phone, email, or chat.

Anyway, to consolidate the discussion regarding the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Firmware issues, please post all related messages in the new thread that we have begun for the purpose of centering all the discussion in one place. Please do not post firmware-related content in another thread. We are closing this thread to redirect.

Thank you for your understanding!
